Caroline Sitting In A Chair In Parrish Orthodontics Clear Ceramic Braces

Wish you could skip traditional metal braces, but aren’t a candidate for Invisalign®? Ask our orthodontists in Fort Wayne, IN, and surrounding areas about getting clear ceramic braces. These braces blend in with the color of your natural enamel so you can discreetly straighten your teeth. The brackets are clear ceramic and are paired with tooth-colored wires to help avoid immediate detection.

Here’s what else you need to know about clear ceramic braces.

Candidates for Clear Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are perfect for teens and adults who may feel self-conscious with metal wires and brackets. For example, you may want more subtle braces if you work a public-facing job or are going to college. Clear ceramic braces can help you make a good first impression, all while improving your smile and oral health.

In general, ceramic brackets are more brittle than metal ones. For this reason, we recommend ceramic braces for patients who have stopped growing and have all of their permanent adult teeth. Ceramic braces don’t strain as much with minor tooth movement, which makes it ideal for short treatment plans.

How to Care for Ceramic Braces

Oral hygiene is of utmost importance during orthodontic treatment. While wearing ceramic braces, make sure you continue to brush your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes at a time. It’s also important that you floss your teeth once a day to remove any plaque or food particles caught between teeth. We recommend using a floss threader to help guide the floss under the archwire.

Be mindful of the foods you eat while wearing clear ceramic braces. The elastic ties that hold the wires to the brackets may be prone to staining. This may especially be the case if you drink a lot of coffee, tea, or other staining beverages. Practicing good oral hygiene and limiting staining foods and drinks can help your clear braces remain discreet.
